The Electrical Engineer is central to the mission of the Midea America Research Center and plays a critical role in driving new US products and technology. This role requires both strong technical skills as well as business acumen to create and drive product innovations that exceed customer expectations. The Senior Innovation Electrical Engineer will focus on new standards-based wireless power technology to power small appliances from modified induction burners using RF communications for control. Future projects could also include projects involving embedded appliance controls & user interfaces, motor control, inverters or other power electronic areas. Substantial freedom is given to explore new ideas and opportunities per strategic imperatives.
Travel within the US or to Asia and Europe to meet with Midea HQ and technology suppliers and partners is required at times.
Desired Skills and Expertise
Ten years or more experience in research and product development
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, with specific training in wireless power technology areas (induction, NFC, RF front end, embedded programming)
Knowledge and experienced in both analog and digital electronics design.
Solid understanding of electromagnetic fundamentals and application of coils, antennas, etc.
Ability to use simulation tools to explore sources of variability in wireless power systems in order to optimize designs
Embedded programming experience in C and/or C++
Creative thinker with strong innovation skills
Ability to create or apply technology as needed to solve technical problems
Strong product development skills able to reduce ideas to practice
Experience working with remote product development teams
Experience with open innovation and collaboration in an engineering environment
Solid understanding of consumer product development process and manufacturing
Goal-oriented and self-managed
Experience with international, cross-cultural teams and interactions
Be primary technical lead and point-of-contact for MARC for wireless power electronics projects and initiatives.
Develop advanced projects using above-mentioned technologies, including hardware designs, algorithm development, and associated embedded firmware coding.
Reduce ideas to practice and secure patent protection.
Coordinate with product platform leaders to implement new innovations into the product plan.
Support other team members in technical specialists as needed.
Follow all MARC laboratory safety procedures.
Work location at MARC facilities in Louisville, KY.
