Manager, IT - QA

Job Summary

The Manager, IT provides leadership, planning, prioritization, scheduling and effective implementation for agreed IT initiatives on roadmap as well as application support and enhancements. Sets high standards for sound design and code delivery. Sets a sustainable work pace for the team. Generates estimates for work and collaborates on priorities. Facilitates the end-to-end delivery of prioritized projects and defect remediation in conjunction with project management and support management. Collaborating closely with the Project Manager is accountable for creating and maintaining the budget and overseeing the timeline. Removes impediments for the team. Ensures team has the correct skill sets to execute against priorities.

Job Functions
  • Collaborates with the PM to effectively schedule available resource capacity against project demand and to provide meaningful project start and milestone dates
  • As Manager you will be defining QA strategy, approach and execution in various projects
  • You will provide technical leadership and expertise in the field of QA and test automation and ensure that the development teams adhere to the principles, guidelines and best practices of the QA strategy as defined
  • Provide definition and planning level estimates for approved projects
  • Provides ongoing communication to IT executives and stakeholders
  • Coordinates required cross-functional teams (e.g. SSO, PMO, Security, etc.)
  • Plan and direct the daily activities of a team focused on a particular system or technology
  • Manage department staff including hiring, performance management and career development to ensure alignment with defined goals
  • Focus on continuous QA improvements including usage of appropriate testing tools, test techniques, test automation
  • Building and maintenance of quality standards as well as enforcing technical and testing standards
  • Ensures team tailors, complies with and demonstrates a sound knowledge of the Systems Development Life Cycle methodology (SDLC) for assigned projects and tasks
  • Manage training and continuous learning of QA staff
  • Executes and coordinates quality assurance testing and acts as gatekeeper of high quality
  • Provide technical expertise in Test Automation, Testing Methodologies, Testing Processes, Tools and Techniques across the teams
  • Participate in interviews, induction, training and performance evaluation of all QA team members
  • Monitor and control resource, revenue, expenses and capital costs against the project budget and manage expectations of all project stakeholders
  • Completes administrative tasks such as time, invoice and user access approval
  • Relationship Management: Builds effective relationships between IT, business users, and internal/external service providers
  • Acts as a point of contact and facilitate access to subject matter experts
  • Communicates to senior levels on technical, Shared Services and 3rd-party issues
  • Responsible for the assignment of internal project resources
  • People Management: Leads, coaches, and manages direct reports
  • Provides support and guidance as required, in line with individuals' abilities
  • Advises individuals on career paths, and encourage pro-active development of skills and capabilities
  • Sets performance targets, and monitors progress against agreed quality and performance criteria
  • Reviews and monitors resource work load
  • Other duties as assigned

Education / Experience Requirements

Minimum Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems
  • 8+ years experience with related IT experience
  • 3+ years years as a Quality Assurance (QA) / Testing Automation (TA) Manager
  • Experience in managing and providing directions to QA teams
  • Proven track record of building QA teams, managing the function and direction of the QA teams
  • Experience in working in Agile environment
  • Experience managing IT projects and project teams utilizing industry standard SDLC methodologies
  • Experience in testing automation
  • Experience in working in DevOps environment and CI/CD pipeline
  • Retail industry experience

Preferred Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business Management, Computer Science or related field strongly preferred

Knowledge & Skills
  • PMP or CAPM
  • Experience managing projects utilizing Waterfall or Agile methodology
  • Technologies: Ecommerce, Integration and Marketing
  • Mobile technologies
  • QA Automation
