Fabulous opportunity to really make a difference in a not for profit professional membership organisation that sets the standards for their niche marketplace within the education and learning sector.

Reporting to the Director of Membership & Business Development, the Head of Business Development will lead the business development team to increase leads and lead conversion across the product portfolio. The role will also drive income growth taking advantage of market, industry and economic opportunities in line with set annual targets, budgets and KPIs.

This exciting senior role will provide strategic thinking and direction to business development activity, including penetration of target sectors, corporate partner acquisition and member acquisition. There is an emphasis on lead generation and effective pipeline management to achieve significant income growth.

This role will also have line management responsibility for 5 direct reports.

The role will be hybrid with 4 days WFH and 1 day per week office based (Office based in Buckinghamshire)

Essential Experience

  • Sales team management and experience of leading and developing a business development team
  • Sales and business development experience in terms of pipeline management
  • Proven track record of delivering income growth in a business development environment

Tasks and requirements

  • Monitor and analyse key data metrics, performance and insights
  • Identify and leverage opportunities for sponsorship, such as third- party events.
  • Develop market and sector knowledge and an understanding of the needs of prospect organizations, such as SMEs, large corporations, public sector and HEIs.
  • Drive innovation and thought leadership by providing research and insights.
  • Play an active role in delivering the business development strategy such as chairing round table discussions, setting up sector interest groups and leveraging research and external affairs outputs.
  • Work with other departments to ensure an effective sales plan is in place when new products and services are launched or when existing products are under performing.

  • Be a part of wider senior management team, attending monthly department heads meeting, inputting into organizational strategy, being involved in project teams and acting as an internal consultant.
  • Effective time management and time prioritisation
  • Excellent written English
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Microsoft Office including mastery with Excel
